Moving or Changing Schools

  • Bon Voyage! Help your children host a farewell party and invite their friends to record personal messages or fun songs to be played in Spinoza. Or give the children a disposable camera to take pictures of their friends with Spinoza and create a scrapbook to look at while listening to their friends’ voices.
  • You Are All You Need To Be reminds us how special we are and Good Friends helps us share feelings. Find time to listen to these tapes together to build confidence in your child before going to a new school, or to baseball practice or swimming lessons in your new community.
  • Timberrrr! Even Spinoza has to find a new place to live when his house is chopped down to make way for a new road in New Beginnings. With your child, make a favorite treat together - maybe ice-cream sundaes or popcorn - and talk about how the story made you feel. What does Spinoza think about having to find a new place to live? What things will change and what things will stay the same?
  • What fun for kids to create their own business cards! After listening to Good Friends, your child can share feelings about relationships with friends and family while creating original “business cards” complete with his/her new telephone number and address at the bottom. Or create full size pictures to give as gifts to loved ones before moving away.
  • Letters, e-mail, and telephone calls help us stay in touch with the people we love. Your child can create a special address book with the cover being a drawing of Spinoza and his friends and include in it address information for family and friends.
