| Spinoza Makes A Difference.... | ||
"As a Head Start teacher, I have used Spinoza in my daily schedule to extend on the children's learning environment. I love to role play with my class using Spinoza, and the children love him. One particular day that will always be in my heart, is the Mock Fire Drill we were having in class. I used Spinoza to role play with the children allowing them to give input on things to look and listen for during our fire drill. A little girl named Sarah raised her hand to be fire chief. She told the children to line up behind her at the door, because there is a fire in the 'house area.' All the children stood at the door and I began to check the 'house area.' Sarah said, "Mrs. Clark, are you going to let Spinoza get burned up, because he's our special friend and he loves us.' Sarah walked over to the 'quiet area' and picked Spinoza up, holding him close to her." Thank you, |

"About a month before Spinoza was introduced to our class a child had lost their mother due to a car accident. It was a single parent family so he went to live with his grandmother. This child, that was so outspoken and eager to please had become quiet and detached. Everyone tried to comfort him, but nothing really helped until Spinoza was passed around the first day. We put in the tape, 'I'm your Friend And My Name Is Spinoza', and each child had time with Spinoza. When it was this child's turn he looked the bear right in the face and at that moment Spinoza said, 'What's your name?' The child answered, then Spinoza said, 'Well you're special and I'm special too.' This child's face lit-up and he smiled and said, 'He said I'm special and he's special too.' He gave Spinoza a big hug and has since gone to Spinoza when he feels like being alone or will sometimes walk around the classroom holding him. Spinoza really helped us through a rough time in this child's life."
